Mother Jones - Why Occupy Should be the Left's Tea Party
The idea of labeling this movement politically is downright stupid. Defining it as ‘left wing’ is pushing away conservatives who are equally pissed off with the current system. Occupy is a movement of outrage against a corrupt political system and the 1% (actually, more like the 0.1%) who control most of the nation’s wealth (and therefore power). While the conservatives and liberals might have different ways of solving the problems in this country, both sides can agree that the government is very screwed up right now and needs some serious help. If Occupy could unite as a non-partisan movement and escape the party-politics that seems entrenched in our society, they’d have a shot at succeeding and making some real change. Then they could attempt to come to true compromise that could please both sides and fix what has been broken for so long. Until then, the movement will continue to make a lot of noise, but to the politicians up on their figurative balconies, it’s like a yapping dog far, far below them.
